WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Mike Michaud announced that the Federal Highway Administration has approved a grant totaling $1,608,847 for the replacement structure and site improvements of the Swans Island Ferry Terminal.  The improvements will allow for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, making ferry service more accessible for all patrons.

"The safety and accessibility of this ferry is very important to this region's passengers," Michaud said.  "The improvements made possible through this grant funding will allow for the full utilization of the ticketing and reservation systems along with improving vehicle and pedestrian circulation on site."

According to the Federal Highway Administration, the enhancements will also incorporate site security plan provisions that are currently required and will reduce congestion with other boating facility structures. The ultimate goal of improving the ferry terminal is to create separation for vehicles and pedestrians and minimize the potential for vehicle and pedestrian incidents.
