WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Michaud announced that the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Community Development Block Grant program (CDBG) released $5,812,513 in funding to urban revitalization projects in the State of Maine, including a $1,026,088 grant to Bangor for community development projects. The Bangor grant will be used to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and suitable living environments, and by extending economic opportunities, particularly for low- and middle-income families.

"I am pleased that HUD released this funding.  These grants are crucial to towns and cities in Maine," Michaud said. "The assistance will help to create safe, affordable, and prosperous communities for many Maine families."

According to HUD, The CDBG program works to ensure decent affordable housing, to provide services to the most vulnerable in our communities, and to create jobs through the expansion and retention of businesses. CDBG is an important tool for helping local governments tackle serious challenges facing their communities. The CDBG program has made a difference in the lives of millions of people and their communities across the nation.

In addition to the Bangor grant, HUD also awarded grants to Biddeford, Cumberland County, and Portland.
