Michaud Applauds Final Passage of 2009 Budget

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Mike Michaud praised passage of the 2009 House Budget Resolution, which maintains a commitment to key Blue Dog principles, including adherence to pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) budget discipline and a fully offset fix for the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT).  The budget plan provides for a balanced budget by 2012 and greater deficit reduction than the President's budget over 5 years, accruing less debt and wasting fewer resources on interest payments on the national debt.

"For too long we have had to endure record deficits and a total lack of fiscal discipline from the Administration and the previous leadership in Congress," said Michaud, a member of the Blue Dog Coalition.  "I am pleased that this budget includes strong provisions that will help get our nation's fiscal house in order.  Maine families have to live within their means and budget their resources - the federal government should be no different."

The Blue Dog Coalition was formed in 1995 and is dedicated to a core set of beliefs, including a deep commitment to the financial stability of the United States. Currently there are 47 members of the Blue Dog Coalition. For more information, visit the Blue Dog Website at http://www.house.gov/ross/BlueDogs/.a
